LAVRENTI LYDIA-DIONISIA

My name is Lydia- Dionysia Lavrenti. I am a graduate of the Department of Chemistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
My thesis was entitled Photochemical Upgrading of Plastics into Higher-Value Products via Indirect Hydrogen Atom Transfer”, supervised by Professor Christoforos G. Kokotos.

My scientific interests focus on the fields of Organic Synthesis, Medicinal Chemistry, and Biochemistry.

Biochemical skills:

  • Cell transformation and preparation of culture media.
  • Restriction enzyme digestion reactions.
  • DNA agarose gel electrophoresis and protein SDS-PAGE.
  • DNA fragment isolation using the Gel Extraction method.
  • Experimental procedures in flow cytometry and bioreactor simulation of large intestine conditions.
  • Experimental procedures with the model organism Drosophila melanogaster.

Analytical techniques:

  • Spectroscopy: UV-Vis, FTIR, NMR, MS.
  • Chromatographic methods.

Digital skills:

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Data analysis software (Origin, ChemDraw, MATLAB, MESTRENOVA, ImageJ).
  • Graphic design platforms (Canva, Figma).

Participation in Teams:

  • Participation in the student Synthetic Biology team iGEM Athens 2025, representing Greece in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM Grand Jamboree) Competition. Active involvement in the Wet Lab, Human Practices, and Social Media sectors.
  • Presentation at the 31st Scientific Congress of Hellenic Medical Students.
  • Organization and presentation at iGEMfest: A Three-Day Event on Synthetic Biology and Interdisciplinarity.
  • Poster presentation at the 8th Hellenic & Paris Pasteur Institute Young Scientists Conference 2025.
  • The iGEM Athens 2025 team won 1st place at the Biotechnology Entrepreneurship Competition BioSTART 2025.
  • Founder and active member of AthChemists, a student Chemistry group active on Instagram (@athchemists) and Facebook (@athchemists).
  • Presentation at the 9th Scientific Meeting of the Department of Chemistry, NKUA.
